Interface Brain Only

Why brain savvy?

Neuroscience is shaping a new understanding of:

  • How the brain functions
  • The brain processes and chemistry that underlie instincts, emotions, thinking and behaviour
  • The brain processes that influence how we react, act and interact
  • How the brain perceives, learns, adapts and responds to change
  • What we can do to enable our brains to work at their best, especially in times of disruption, nonstop change and uncertainty

Being smart and business savvy is important, but it is no longer enough in our complex and turbulent workplace environments. People must also be brain savvy.

There is now a strong and growing body of evidence to suggest that the brain has a lot more to do with reshaping behaviours than we may have originally thought. For example, when the brain is stressed or under pressure, it simply can’t perform to its full potential, no matter how much we try. On the other hand, given the right conditions, the brain is able to do some incredible things, sometimes beyond what we believe is possible.

Creating a brain-friendly environment to optimise performance (2 hours)

  • To be successful in the future, organisations will need to pay attention to providing brain-friendly workplaces where their people can become creators or co-creators of their workflow so that their brains can offer their best thinking. It’s what will differentiate the best organisations from the average ones in the years to come.
  • This session introduces some core elements to consider for building brain-friendly workplaces of the future.

Managing stress (yours and others) to optimise team effectiveness (4 hours)

Insight and the link to creative problem solving (2 hours)

  • In this session, we explore how having insight is associated with creativity and problem-solving. We also show how it helps people to make personal changes, accept change and learn. Leaders and everyone else solve problems in two different ways. When we have a moment of insight the solution to a problem appears in a flash and we just know it is right.
  • We explain the science of insight and how to have more.

Staying focused to achieve your goals faster (2 hours)

  • This session explores the move from managing our time to the need to manage our cognitive load and for increasing our capacity to focus attention. Our brains are not as efficient as we would like to believe. We actually need to inhibit a huge range of distractions in order to focus attention. We explore why we are distracted and how we can manage that distraction.

What creates and destroys energy in organisations (2 hours)

  • Understanding what inspires energy and what drains it is possibly the most important and least talked about role of leaders since, we’d argue, the point of leadership is to generate an environment with a sense of genuine purpose and connection, an environment that unleashes and focuses energy that will, in turn, make for maximum productivity, effort and wellbeing.
  • This session explores how to generate and build positive energy in teams and the wider organisation.

Creating leadership habits (2 hours)

  • Our starting point is to share the mindset research from Carol Dweck and to carry out an exercise where participants assess their own mindset about their leadership journey. (We could get participants to do this online prior to the session and talk about aggregated results)
  • This session explores the principles of habit formation and introduces practical ways to build this capability at individual, team and whole of organisation levels.
